The learning curve never ends. As APM Cleaning and Repair continues to grow, the broad spectrum of daily tasks and activities multiplies, with increasing volume and urgency. In the early days, I became perfectly used to picking up a task and running with it, developing new systems and the most efficient way of carrying out a daily working routine. As these tasks obviously increased, my days became a marathon of getting through the essentials, without the opportunity to consider the bigger picture and spend time making more strategic decisions and plans. Now thankfully, I have learned that I cannot do everything and although multitasking remains a strength of which I am very proud, my focus is firmly on the future, and I have learned to offload and … [Read more...] about Offload and Outsource

Durham County Council appointed APM in 2019 to clean six extra care sites distributed across County Durham. Each of these sites contains up to 35 flats, with a total of 210 to be cleaned on a weekly basis by APM’s clean teams. With an existing ten staff who transferred from the outgoing provider, we supplemented the team with existing employees and assigned a team of two, including a supervisor to each of the Durham County Council contracted sites. Each of these staff have completed not only the council’s required training but APM’s in-house training, covering Safeguarding and Dementia Awareness, as well as our Code of Conduct which covers all work we undertake, involving vulnerable people.   During the mobilisation period, supervisors visited the sites to … [Read more...] about Case Study: Durham County Council

Tenders are a minefield; everyone knows this. With some help, I feel I have just about mastered the process (if not always the pricing!) and APM’s wins have been big; all very positive for myself and the business, where my efforts are focused- to reach the next level. Sometimes the wins outshine the reality however, and I have found that it is just as important to recognise when a contract is just not right for your business and does not fit with the route you wish to walk. Having recently won a large contract, following much research, team effort, time and submission of a completed bid, team APM celebrated as we always do and then set to work on mobilising the teams responsible. Several weeks later, after closely monitoring the contract, I made a … [Read more...] about Navigating that 2-way street!

Working within a social care environment, APM Cleaning & Repair is keen to support the efforts of charities involved in raising funds to improve care and research within the sector. We have previously hosted events such as ‘Denim for Dementia’, donating funds from our staff to contribute to work which helps those affected by these awful diseases. This time, Team APM would like to ask for your help with another of our chosen charities, by Recycling for Alzheimer’s Society. A great way to raise funds and it’s as easy as having a clear out of old jewellery, foreign coins, cameras and film, stamps, old technology devices and even cars! Everything is accepted; even odd earrings, broken cufflinks, obsolete currency and unwanted items and simple to donate … [Read more...] about Recycling for Alzheimer’s Society
