As the world opens up post-pandemic, we find a lot of things have changed; some for the better, some not so much.
One of the more controversial topics, which currently seems to be dividing opinion, is the move to more home working (or not).
The two sides of the debate aren’t as clear cut as business owners and employees or even home working versus office working; but certainly prompts discussion and places businesses in a precarious situation when weighing up productivity versus new regulations and employment law.
Is there a tendency to assume working from home is an ‘easy option’, suited to those who choose to no longer travel to the office? Alternatively, has the seemingly idealistic scenario of home and work life merging, now lost its shine and are people now eager to work, communicate and benefit from the company of colleagues, in a familiar environment; that of the office. If so, where does the divide fall and how do office camaraderie, training, opportunity and job satisfaction manifest between the two divisive choices?
This argument may rage on for some time with employers and employees wading through unchartered territory in hunt for the safe ground, while navigating varying degrees of return to normality.
For businesses working in service industries however, WFH isn’t an option and for those working as key workers; never has been.
The question being, when employees are thin on the ground and the securing of staff already a seemingly impossible task, where does that leave us as key workers, within a service industry with regards recruitment; is the employment pool becoming increasingly smaller with potential employees favouring a sector where WFH is considered an option or even actively promoted and marketed as a perk?
How does our generous salary, competitive package excellent conditions, training, and reliable work with permanent, full time contracts fare in the scale of appeal in the already large and growing job market?
It may be some time before the current landscape alters sufficiently to allow us to see the light on the horizon and meantime….? Well, we are inviting applications from people who are genuinely looking to work (not from home) for an excellent package of benefits and a friendly, safe, and welcoming environment, conducive to people development, training and motivation; happy workforce, happy me!
